In the courtyard of this historical building, enjoy light refreshments and live music by Jimmy and Laine. Jimmy and Laine have been making music for over 4 decades. Drawing on their appreciation for different genres, you can expect classic and contemporary rock, country, blues, bluegrass, pop, jazz, and folk performed on guitars, mandolin, bass, harmonica, and mandola, but not at the same time. There’s only two of ’em.

Learn about the history and architecture of this historic home while enjoying light refreshments and live music from Chris Caswell Rice, known as BrassWell. BrassWell is a trumpeter, vocalist, and entertainer who brings a fresh, fun twist to New Orleans–style Dixieland jazz. His latest project, “Hear Me Out,” is available now. Relax in this home’s tranquil back garden while learning about it’s history and architecture and enjoying light refreshments.
H – Donnelly House Front Porch and Back Yard 2838 Highland Ave
On the front porch of his historic building, you can join a hands-on textile and mending workshop led by local artisan and docent Wilhelmina Thomas. Whether you are looking to learn fundamental hand-stitching techniques, repair a favorite vintage garment, or explore creative appliqué and visible mending, this session offers a welcoming space to stitch, share stories, and build community. All skill levels are welcome, and basic sewing supplies and scrap textiles will be provided. No registration / sign-up required. Bring your own mending projects or start a new sampler alongside fellow craft enthusiasts in one of Birmingham’s most picturesque historic settings.
Meanwhile, in the backyard, learn about the history and architecture of the building while enjoying light refreshments and live music from Zach Austin of The StepDads, a Birmingham‑based Folk/Americana/Country singer-songwriter who blends traditional country and folk influences with Bluegrass and storytelling. Known for distinctive live performances —delivering gritty, narrative-driven songs that reflect tales of life, love, heartache, and late-night bar “situations”.

Pick up a copy of the Historic Highland Scavenger Hunt! Complete and return it to BHS by 5 p.m. to win a copy of True Tales of Birmingham, one of the Society’s most popular books. While at BHS, browse an exhibit of aerial photographs from the Society’s newest release Birmingham by the Book: A Guide to the Magic City and the Society’s other books for sale, learn about Highland Avenue’s grand residences, and get tips on researching the history of your home or apartment and how to get an historical marker.
J – Greenbriar at the Altamont 2831 Highland Ave
Enjoy live music from Opera Birmingham and light refreshments while learning about the history of this historic building which today houses the non-profit Noland Health Services, a continued care retirement community providing independent living, assisted living, and rehab/nursing home.
K – Alabama Audubon 2835 Highland Ave
Pop in to learn about their mission to promote conservation and a greater knowledge of birds, their habitats, and the natural world and how you can join them out in the field and help them to protect the natural heritage of America’s fourth-most biodiverse state.
L – Little Villa Front Porch 2931 Highland Ave
Learn about the history of his historic home and the efforts that went into saving it from demolition just last year while enjoying light refreshments and live music by Rebecca Egeland, a bright, shining, and unforgettable artist with a smooth, expansive vocal range carrying a rare depth of feeling. Her joy lights up every stage she steps onto. She is a storyteller with the gift of transforming her own heart’s stories into meaning that belongs to everyone. M – Avalon Apartments Pocket Park 3007 Highland Ave
Celebrate this building’s 100th year! Learn about the 100 year history of this historic apartment building while enjoying light refreshments and live music from Sonny Pritchett. Sonny has been a resident of Highland Park for over 45 years. And he’s been playing guitar even longer. You can expect to hear covers by some of your favorite folk inspired songwriters: John Prine, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Grateful Dead, and many others.
N – IPC Parking Lot
Crop Drop Volunteer Opp(ortunity)! Bag up a bundle of crops that will be distributed to folks around the state in need of fresh produce. Event parking available.
